Noise related issues

My Hotpoint washing machine is noisy and unstable

Leaking issues

My Hotpoint washing machine is leaking

As part of the manufacturing process we thoroughly test your washing machine to ensure that it will not leak from any internal components after you have installed it. It is therefore likely that any initial leaking either before or during first use will be due to water still remaining in the washing machine following this testing process and not due to an actual leak from any internal components. Before requesting a service engineer’s visit please ensure that you check all the external pipework for leaks. Also please make sure that the hose connections to your washing machine and to the taps are secure as shown in the diagram below.

A leak could also possibly appear from your detergent dispenser if your water pressure is excessive or the washing machine has not been levelled properly during installation.

To stop this try to reduce the water pressure, or alternatively raise the front feet of your washing machine.  Please ensure you check both ends of the connection at the fill hose as well as checking the drain hose during the pump out process.

Operations

There is a smell coming from my Hotpoint washing machine

When a Hotpoint washing machine is fitted to an under sink waste supply, care must be taken to ensure that the hooked end support on your waste hose is positioned correctly to prevent sink waste contaminating your Hotpoint washing machine. Refer to the installation instructions for more information.

Alternatively we recommend that our customers use our Limescale and Detergent remover will hygienically clean your machine. Call our spare parts department on 08448 225 225 to purchase the product or shop online

My Hotpoint washing machine will not fill on hot washes

Modern Hotpoint washing machines that we manufacture are designed to optimise the resources of water and energy that are available. When selecting the hottest washes on your program dial you are requesting the Hotpoint washing machine to operate at the maximum temperature whilst consuming minimal energy so your Hotpoint Washing Machine will attempt to fill predominantly with its hot water supply.

Should the hot water supply be non-existent or low due to water pressure (common in flats and bungalows, etc.) you may need to convert your Hotpoint washing machine to cold fill only using a cold fill adapter.  This will ensure that your wash program receives the correct amount of water and the heater will heat the water to the correct temperature.

Also check the fill hoses for any sign of a blockage and kinks and check to ensure that the hot tap is switched on

My fabric conditioner is not being taken away

Failure of your Hotpoint washing machine to remove the fabric conditioner from the appropriate section of the dispenser is usually due to a blockage within the detergent dispenser itself.

Remove the conditioner compartment, clean dispenser draw and housing in hot soapy water to remove any blockages and re try the wash process.  Also some concentrated conditioners need to be diluted by mixing them with water prior to the start of the program. Finally check that the feet are level and the Hotpoint washing machine is not too low on the front as this could prevent the fabric conditioner being rinsed away.

My Hotpoint washing machine is stopping mid cycle

Check that your cold water supply is on as failure to fill on the rinses will result in your Hotpoint washing machine stopping mid-cycle. On some newer Hotpoint washing machines either a tap symbol or a flashing light will advise of this.

On certain models a ‘rinse hold’ or ‘crease care’ option is present. These options will hold the wash contents in their final rinse water. Simply de-selecting the option will allow the wash/rinse process to continue to the end of the cycle.

Failure to position the drain hose at the correct height may also lead to problems of your appliance stopping mid-cycle. Check the positioning of the drain hose see your instruction manual for more information.

My fabric conditioner is being taken too soon

The pressure of water being delivered to the dispenser may be excessive causing water to splash into the fabric conditioner compartment. Simply reducing the cold water being supplied by your appliance taps should rectify this problem. Reducing the amount of cold water being supplied to your appliance by slightly turning the tap away from the pipe work as shown in the diagram below should reduce water pressure.

Alternatively the fabric conditioner compartment may be being overfilled or possibly the detergent dispenser is being closed with excessive force, which can account for premature usage of the fabric conditioner as well.

Please make sure that the feet on your Hotpoint washing machine are level.

There is a light flashing on my Hotpoint washing machine

Many of our newer Hotpoint washing machines have a series of indicator lights, which flash to indicate a possible fault on your installation or simply to let you know a problem occurred whilst you were away from your Hotpoint washing machine.

Pre wash light flashing
Indicates a failure of your Hotpoint washing machine to fill correctly. Check your fill hoses for a blockage, a leak, a kink or to make sure that they are turned on.

Wash light flashing
Indicates that your program dial has been moved from its original position. Simply returning the wash dial to its original position will restore the light to its original status.

Spin light flashing
Indicates that the Hotpoint washing machine has considered the wash load to be excessively unbalanced. Open up the door of the washing machine, re-distribute the garments and retry the spin to resolve this.

End light flashing
Indicates that the Hotpoint washing machine has reached the end of a wash program.

Wash, rinse and spin lights all lit at the same time would indicate a possible blockage in your under sink wastes system.

Please check your user manual as all models vary.

Why are my wash results poor?

To achieve the perfect wash you need to firstly select the correct program, and then add the recommended amount of detergent.

Take care not to overload your Hotpoint washing machine as this will produce poor wash results due to an inability of the appliance to effectively dissolve the detergent.

By selecting the correct program for the type of wash you require you will be automatically employing the correct ratio of time, temperature, detergent and agitation.

Try re-washing garments on the correct program ensuring that an adequate dosage of detergent is used as well as checking to make sure that the economy or quick wash option (if present) is not being used on heavily soiled items.

You may also find that heavily soiled items need a pre-wash to be used in order to improve the wash results.

My Hotpoint washing machine is full of soapsuds

If your Hotpoint washing machine has the incorrect type of detergent used on a wash, excessive soaping will often occur :

  • Always use a detergent specifically designed for use in an automatic washing machine.
  • To reduce the soap suds once they have occurred, simply cut a bar of ordinary hand soap in two and put into the Hotpoint washing machine drum. This will help to “kill” the bubbles.

My Hotpoint washing machine will not spin

Your Hotpoint washing machine has an in built feature to prevent it spinning with an unbalanced load. This will minimise excessive vibration and prolong its life.

Before each spin the control system senses the load within the drum and if it considers the load to be unbalanced, it will not automatically spin. Instead, the appliance will try to redistribute the load to achieve balance by tumbling backwards and forwards. If it is unable to balance the load after a number of attempts, the spin process will then be aborted.

On appliances fitted with a ‘Final Spin’ indicator light, this light will be flashing to advise you that this has occurred. On other appliances you may notice that the clothes are still soaking when you attempt to remove them from the drum. If this safety feature is encountered you can spin the load again after first opening the door, redistributing the load and and re-selecting a spin program.

My Hotpoint washing machine is taking too long

All of our latest Hotpoint washing machines are designed to give optimum wash results whilst also reducing the impact on the environment by using the minimum required amount of water and energy.

Modern machines use less water, which means more agitation resulting in longer cycles. For approximate program times, please see your user manual.

My clothes are coming out creased

Ensure that the hot and cold fill hoses are correctly fitted by running them both into a bowl or bucket, because if you have incorrectly reversed these hoses this will result in the garments rinsing in hot water. This will produce the effect of wash loads coming out of the Hotpoint washing machine hot after the rinses causing excessive creasing. Also the washing machine door will remain closed for much longer than the normal 2-3 minutes.

Excessive creasing can also occur when the incorrect program has been selected from the washes that are available. Always stick to the wash care symbols found in all machine washable items as each program is pre-set to give perfect wash results for the particular fabrics being used.

When using a synthetic program (acrylics for example), remove the garments from the drum as soon as possible after the final spin as this may also contribute to the creasing effects. Also ensure that your Hotpoint washing machine is not over loaded or under loaded.

My Hotpoint washing machine will not empty

If your Hotpoint washing machine empties into an under sink waste system please ensure that the blanked end of the waste spigot has been removed as failure to do this will result in the Hotpoint washing machine refusing to empty.

Check that the waste hose has not become trapped or kinked as this could also result in a failure to empty the waste water out of your Hotpoint washing machine.

If you have a “crease care” or “rinse hold” option on your Hotpoint washing machine, ensure that it has been de-selected as using either of these options will hold the washing in the final rinse water on synthetic wash programs.

If your Hotpoint washing machine empties into a stand pipe, ensure that the waste hose is not pushed more than 4inches down the stand pipe.

My Hotpoint washing machine is dead

Please ensure that the socket that your Hotpoint washing machine is connected into is live by plugging in and testing another piece of equipment such as a radio for example.

Also ensure that you are not using an inappropriate extension lead which could be the reason for the Hotpoint washing machine not working.

Your Hotpoint washing machine comes fitted with a 13amp plug and lead; please ensure that the correct rating of fuse is being used.

Always ensure that the on/off or start switch has been used/deployed properly and that the door is closed firmly at the 3 o’clock position.

Other issues

Can I use cold water only to fill my Hotpoint appliance?

You can fill your Hotpoint washing machine with cold water only and let the on board heater take care of the wash water temperature.

The advantages of only cold filling your Hotpoint washing machine is the increased effectiveness of the detergent combined with the ability to heat exactly the correct amount of water inside your machine gradually. This therefore puts less stress on your more delicate items.

Cold fill adapters are available from our Spare Parts and Accessories department on 08448 225 225
